In 2013 CaShawn Thompson coined the phrase Black Girl Magic (or Black Girls are Magic) to celebrate the beauty, power, and resilience of black women. It spread across the internet like wildfire and became a permanent fixture of pop culture.

It’s a phrase I associate with my dear friend, Brooke Obie.

After I got back from Philadelphia, Vlad was all like, “So where’s my embroidery project?” And
because I love him, he got one.

Vlad wasn’t a huge fan of me sticking my needles in the couch while I was stitching, so he upgraded me to a very utilitarian piece of foam. I wanted something cuter. Here’s the thing, though. The traditional pin cushion is a tomato. 
And I hate tomatoes.
